Hello and welcome to this new feature on Elk Lake Elementary's website titled Principal's Notes. From time to time I will be posting events that have happened or will be happening in the near future. The Elk Lake Elementary is committed to your child in their success and growth. Our staff works tirelessly day in and day out to ensure that your child has the best elementary experience possible. We hope to inspire and engage students in a thinking curriculum. Elk Lake Elementary students will achieve personal success and become ready, respectful, and responsible citizens. Our staff will work together through collaboration and focused teaching with clear expectations. The elementary will ensure student success by understanding that good instruction builds on students’ strengths and respects their individual differences. Elk Lake will also ensure that students are working within an aligned instructional system that focuses on powerful knowledge.
There are several new programs and events happening in the elementary. One new program is the Food Pantry. Elk Lake and the Weinberg Food Pantry have partnered up to bring a produce market to our school. This market will be held on the third Thursday of every month. Sign-ups will be monthly and pick up will be from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. This produce market is free and not income-based. We encourage your participation.
Another exciting new feature to the elementary is the library’s Makerspace. This Makerspace was created in memory of Mrs. Carol Engle a retired Elk Lake science teacher who passed away last December. Students can visit the Maker Space during assigned times throughout the day. This space supports the national STEAM initiative. STEAM stands for children using science, technology, engineering, art, and math to develop creative and independent thinking. Materials such as Legos, K'nex, Keva blocks, Magna Tiles, origami, Zoobs, duct tape, Snap Circuits, and independent projects using multiple art supplies are stationed at the space. We are extremely excited about this new space in the Library to engage your child’s creativity for the future.
Lastly, our elementary cafeteria is under a facelift! With the help of Mrs. Stone and the high school art students, we will slowly be unveiling a new mural in the cafeteria; one that is near and dear to the elementary’s heart. Please keep your eyes peeled and stay tuned as we are excited for this new mural to be completed!
