Principal's Notes

Mr. Marc Weisgold, Principal

Welcome to 2017! Hoping everyone had a restful holiday break. We had

a terrific few months before break that were loaded with many neat events for our students. We had our Mystery Readers come in and read to our students in grades K-3 that met the qualifications of the at home reading program. Readers such as Elk Lake bus drivers, Smokey the Bear and

even Santa Claus made a guest appearance to read to our students! The elementary was honored to have the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau's Mobile

Ag Lab come to Elk Lake. This opportunity was made possible through the PTO. The mobile lab allowed the entire elementary to have a 30 minute hands on science lab experience. A 40 ft. trailer provided space for student partners to complete hands-on experiments within 12 work stations. The science curriculum taught meets Pennsylvania Department of Education Science & Technology and Environment & Ecology Standards and is endorsed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Children worked cooperatively to solve a problem as they formed a hypothesis, collected

data and drew conclusions. The level of student engagement was high and each student that left the mobile lab learned a real life science lesson. The PTO volunteered their own time to help assist in the lab for the entire week.

It was a great experience for all students! Just before break we had our annual Polar Express play that was put on by our 5th grade students for grades K-5th. The production had dancers, Santa being pulled in a sleigh,

a snow machine and every child received milk and cookies on the way out

of the performance. The students and staff involved did an excellent job

and committed a lot of their own time to help make this happen.
